Some railway platforms are too short for long trains, so the doors only open in some carriages of the train. Passengers must plan ahead and travel in the right carriage.

access:carriages=* can be used on public_transport=stop_position nodes to indicate which carriages can be used at this station.

Disambiguation

This key is not to be confused with carriage=*, which indicates whether a roadway or other facility allows horse-drawn carriages. Horse-drawn railway lines are quite rare nowadays!

Examples

  • access:carriages=middle;4 means that the only the middle 4 carriages of a train can be boarded at this platform.
  • access:carriages=first;2 means that only the first 2 carriages can be boarded at this platform.
  • access:carriages=last;1 means that only the last carriage of the train can be boarded at this platform.
